New York Guards Against Mumbai-like Attacks
Published 12/3/2008
New York City police increased security around potential terrorist targets in the wake of multiple attacks in Mumbai that killed over 120. Critical Response Vehicles were deployed near potential targets, including hotels and busy intersections. Additional officers were also placed in the New York's subway and commuter rail systems in response to uncorroborated intelligence about a possible al-Qaeda attack. Deputy Commissioner of Public Affairs Paul Browne said that the New York Police Department has run a number of training exercises involving hostages. A large emergency service unit has been trained specifically to deal with incidents similar to what happened in Mumbai.
